One sunny Friday afternoon in 2001, I was t-boned at an intersection and my life changed in an instant. Severe whiplash and physical and emotional trauma developed into chronic pain, relentless tension, and overwhelming anxiety. At first, I believed that with time and the right treatments, I would heal.

I tried everything - physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, and chiropractic care. Each provided very limited and temporary relief and the pain always crept right back. Doctors handed me prescriptions for pain pills, muscle relaxers, anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medications, but they only made me feel sick and drained the little energy I had left. I was a single mom of two young children, I couldn’t afford to be in pain. As a dancer and yoga practitioner, I went from feeling strong and mobile in my body - to waking up in pain and limited mobility in my head, neck and shoulders. I wondered if I would ever feel normal again.

Then, in 2003, I discovered Yamuna® Body Rolling (YBR®) and - again - everything changed.

From the very first moment, I felt an immediate shift as I sat on the soft, yet supportive inflatable Yamuna Ball and followed the method’s structured approach of stimulating bones and working with the innate intelligence of the body. It became very obvious to me that YBR wasn’t just massaging tight muscle knots for temporary relief - I could feel it was restoring balance and healthy range of movement in my body, releasing deeply-held tension and trauma, and giving me control over my pain and recovery process.

A New Approach to Healing

Unlike other methods I had tried, YBR® works systematically with your own body’s intelligence to manage stress and reduce pain. In Yamuna Body Rolling, we follow the logic and order of the natural pathways of bones, tendons and muscles. With this simple yet profound method, you learn to:

  • Stimulate my bones to create more space in joints and restore healthy alignment.

  • Lengthen muscles from origin to insertion instead of just pressing on random tight spots.

  • Breathe deeply into areas of restriction, helping the nervous system shift from stress to relaxation.

  • Release deep tension, old injuries and “stored” trauma frozen in the body, mind and spirit.

The first time I rolled up my spine, I felt an immediate sense of deep relief. I could feel that I was unwinding years of compression, pain and memories stored in my tissues. As I continued practicing every day, my headaches diminished, my neck, back and shoulders loosened, and my anxiety began to dissolve. I could finally sleep without waking up in pain. My posture, strength and movement improved, and for the first time in years, I felt at home in my body again.

The Lasting Impact of YBR

Yamuna Body Rolling empowered me to heal my own body. It gave me knowledge and tools that I could use anytime, anywhere, to manage and let go of my own pain and tension. I no longer felt dependent on therapists, doctors, or medications. Instead, I had a method that put my well-being into my own hands.

That experience set me on a new path - one that led me back to my body, back to yoga and dance and fitness, and opened the door to trauma-informed yoga therapy and movement education, and ultimately, inspired my mission to empower others to find sustainable relief from pain, stress, and trauma.

YBR® isn’t just another tool in the toolkit - to me it is a gift that I give to myself and to others.

In 2004, I began training with Yamuna Zake and became a certified YBR® practitioner in 2005. In the past 10 years, I have completed training in Yamuna Foot Fitness, YBR in Bed, YBR for the Face, YBR for Scoliosis, and YBR for Pelvic Floor Health, as well as the hands-on assisted practice of Yamuna Table Treatments.

In 2018, I was chosen to be one of her YBR Foundations Teacher Trainers and in 2019 I began training with Yamuna Zake in her signature practice, Yamuna Body Logic.

Yamuna® Table Treatment

Elevate your YBR experience to an entirely new level! In a Yamuna Table Treatment, the practitioner uses their hands and body weight to apply gentle pressure and traction into the client’s body and into the Yamuna ball to achieve greater length and release and restore movement throughout the body. The Yamuna balls stimulate and energize bone, ease muscle tension and restriction, increase blood flow, and act as a fulcrum to create space and allow for deeper work into joints.

The sequence of the table session follows the natural logic and order of the body, using the basic principles of all of the Yamuna® work. The constant goal of the Yamuna practitioner is to assist in correcting alignment throughout the body to restore freedom of movement. 

People get off the table and know they have had a session. You can see the changes almost immediately. ​Their legs feel freer, hips are looser, the torso is longer, even their head feels lighter. Clients love this powerful work!
